Open Call
Exhibition Information
Flag Day will explore the way flags and banners convey attitudes, beliefs and emotions; including patriotism, identity, mourning and celebration.
The exhibition will be curated from an open call by Janet Goleas, an artist, educator and independent curator. Goleas has exhibited extensively, writes for numerous publications including the East Hampton Star and is a visiting professor at Dowling College in Oakdale. She maintains a popular blog that considers the Long Island art scene and beyond.
Artists are invited to submit one work for consideration.
There is NO FEE to submit work.
Work must be submitted in person on the days and times indicated in this prospectus. Work submitted via e-mail to the Museum will not be downloaded or viewed. The curator will view images that are submitted as slides, CDs or photocopies received no later than May 15. Artists may then be asked to bring in a work for further consideration during the Open Call submission period. Call (631) 224-5402 if you have questions concerning this policy.
Two and three dimensional work in all media will be considered. If work exceeds six feet in any direction, or weighs more than 50 pounds, artists should contact the Museum to confirm whether or not it can be accommodated in the galleries. Artists who need to install or assemble multi-part entries should also call ahead to see if space is available.
Selected work will be on view from June 15 through September 4, 2011. An artist's reception is scheduled for Sunday, July 24, from 1 - 4 p.m.
Announcement cards (20) will be made available to all artists whose work is selected for the exhibition.
